A chronological record of Piet Hein Eek’s studio from its first year to 2006. Eek began in Eindhoven in 1990 with furniture assembled from scrap wood, and the book follows how that material logic grew into a workshop, a production method and a body of objects. Chronology is the organizing principle, so cupboards, tables, lighting and later commissions appear in the order they were made, showing how each decision fed the next. The book was built the way the studio works, over a year and a half of continuous editing, and its cover carries a weathered wood surface in print. It sits in the Jade Grain library as a reference on material reuse, and on how a practice can be documented as the work itself was made.
