A porcelain rice cooker in soft white, thrown by hand and finished to a matte, unadorned surface. Sized for a single serving of rice — the meal for one, the quiet dinner alone. The vessel goes directly from stovetop or oven to table, with the lid holding warmth through the meal.

Tetsuya Otani's porcelain is made for the present. Each vessel arrives with a soft white surface and a form refined to its bare skeleton. Time enters through use — the meal served, the coffee poured, the flowers arranged, the daily handling — rather than the maker's direction. Trained as an industrial designer before turning to clay, Otani approaches ceramics through the act of subtraction. He calls it denationalization: refining away the signifiers and declarations that mark a vessel's origin.
