Handcrafted by Dong Dan, CH, c. 2025
This sculptural pitcher features a cylindrical body and subtle lip, glazed in black and animated by a green-splashed speckle pattern inspired by the natural world. The motif evokes snow-laden skies about to descend, a composition known historically as “Near Snow.” Perfect as a ceremonial pouring vessel or a refined floral accent.
Named for Xuan, a classical Chinese term signifying the profound, the unknowable, and the darkly luminous, the piece reflects Dong Dan’s interest in quiet spatial tension and subtle contrasts. A practitioner of Jizhou kiln techniques and glaze experimentation, he reinterprets Song Dynasty traditions through pared-back silhouettes and visual rhythm.
