This teapot reflects Dong Dan’s continuous pursuit of precision in form and glaze. Its rounded body holds a calm spatial tension, achieved through countless refinements of curvature and proportion. The surface bears his signature glaze—an intricate black that sits between matte and gloss, creating a soft interplay of light and density. Both sculptural and functional, it embodies restraint and balance in equal measure.

Named for Xuan, a classical Chinese term signifying the profound, the unknowable, and the darkly luminous, the piece reflects Dong Dan’s interest in quiet spatial tension and subtle contrasts. A practitioner of Jizhou kiln techniques and glaze experimentation, he reinterprets Song Dynasty traditions through pared-back silhouettes and visual rhythm.
