Re-contextualized by Zifeng Liu, CH, c. 2025
A celadon teabowl from the Longquan kilns, dating to the Yuan–Ming transition, forms the foundation of this restored piece. Though born with flaws—a minor firing crack at the lip and a shallow chip at the foot—its deep belly, narrow foot ring, and milky green glaze remain exemplary. Underneath the glaze, white speckling from trapped air bubbles subtly emerges, while a downward glaze flow along the base creates a sense of quiet motion. A coral inlay now gently fills a small rim loss, polished and set into a circular groove, offering both contrast and completion.
Artist Zifeng Liu’s intervention bridges fault and refinement. Rather than conceal imperfection, he traces its line with care—elevating the bowl’s character through a single, deliberate gesture. Paired with its original wooden box, the work invites use in the tearoom, where warmth, texture, and quiet narratives converge.
