“I wish to see new lives animate from the vessels I make.”
Jingwen Wu’s ceramic studio is based in Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital of China. Her practice involves crafting vessels fluid and organic in nature, disinclined to predefine their purposes or forms. These creations find their place as vases, tea tools, tableware, or accents, guided by the vision of their artistic beholder. Infused with poetic humility and enriched by her background in animation, her work catches onto moments and resonates with subtlety and depth.
For Wu, the act of creation is a course of dialogue unfolded between layering and gravity, glazing and the raw clay, human insight and natural existence. Her perceptive approach results in forms that strike a balance between structure and fluidity, realizing a negative space for interpretation and imagination.
