Re-contextualized by Zifeng Liu, CH, c. 2025
Two naturally fractured Gobi Desert stones, once a seamless whole, are joined again through a delicate act of repair. The polished surfaces reveal fine grain and a balanced geometry—two near-cubes reconnected with hand-pinned brass staples. Liu embraces the poetic symmetry of the pair, evoking both tension and resolution in their still-visible fracture line.
Zifeng Liu’s practice involves minimal yet refined interventions into materials shaped by time. Here, a spontaneous geological split is made intentional, forming a contemplative object for the scholar’s table.
